What’s with today? It’s like this huge holiday that everyone gets super-excited for. But why? Another excuse for college students and adults that are too old grasping at the memories of their past to get obliterated? Hooray! Sounds like Saturday, my favourite holiday!
Okay, so I’m not as bitter as some people , but it is weird to me. St. Patrick did not really get snakes out of Ireland, which is thing I think most people remember. Snakes were never in Ireland, at least the animal kind. U2 is from there (right?), so that is enough for me. Plus, my family is Welsh. So Ireland to them, was like my personal Ohio . Eeeew, I hate Ohio. How did this spiral into my hate of Ohio, you ask? Everything does. It’s that bad.
Anyway, just like my genious Sister-In-Law , I too, am sporting orange, the color of the Irish Protestants! Particularly, and orange sweatshirt with the word HOLLAND across the front (my other half. I can have two halves, right?) in support of the few, the belittled, the lonely Irish Protestant! After all, St. Patrick was the patron saint of the downtrodden!

Alright, I’ll agree wholeheartedly with the Ohio sentiments. However, my 1/726th Irishness requires me to defend this most joyous of days. First of all, when did you get too old to get wasted? I know I’m not. Also, U2 is the best/most important band in the last two decades, without doubt or question. So today I say, Slainte! Or smoke my green-wearing, U2-listening, Guinness-imbibing, swear-I’m-part-Irish-until-I-die pole! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! :)
Word from my funny Irish professor is that the only snakes in Ireland are in the Dublin zoo and St. Patrick was Welsh. Interesting.
Ohio SUCKS! Especially Ohio State….Oh, and you know what I just thought of when I read Kritin’s comment?? What do you think of when you hear the word “Dublin”???? I’ll give you a hint “You’re up there in that little basket!” Wow…that’s kinda sad and pathetic.
